RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Resume Evaluation - Resumes are reviewed to ensure that candidates meet the minimum requirements for employment. Once a candidate has been deemed eligible, they are contacted and advised of the date for the next hiring process.

Written Evaluation - Applicants will begin the hiring process with a 150 question multiple choice exam.

Scenario Evaluation - Applicants that are successful with the written evaluation will participate in two practical evaluations.

Interview Evaluation - Applicants that are successful in the scenario evaluations will be scheduled for an interview. The oral interview focuses on previous job related experience, approach towards work and career, and personal development.

Field Evaluation - Applicants that are successful in the interview evaluation will be scheduled for two field evaluation days. The candidate will ride as a third member of a crew for two 12 hour shifts. This will not only give WPD Ambulance a chance to assess the candidate, but will also give the candidate a chance to see if WPD Ambulance is a place that they want to be.

Job Offer - After successful completion of all aspects of the hiring process, the candidate will either be offered a position with a start date, or the candidate will be placed on a short list. Those placed on a short list will be contacted when a position become available.

Position Overview:

The Battlefords are located along the North Saskatchewan River about half way between Lloydminster and Saskatoon, known as Saskatchewan’s year-round Playground. WPD Ambulance is the only full ALS service in the PNRHA and the fifth largest ALS service in Saskatchewan.

Under the direction and supervision of the Operations/Training Manager, the Primary Care Paramedic is responsible for providing emergent and non-emergent Basic Life Support (BLS) services to the sick and injured and for continuing to provide BLS medical services until responsibility for patient care can be assumed by Hospital staff or a designated Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider.

Accountabilities:

Respond to emergency situations, as required, in a timely fashion in keeping with company guidelines.

Respond to routine treatment/diagnostic transfers, as required, in a timely fashion in keeping with company guidelines.

Provide assessment and treatment to ill and injured persons, which are consistent with The Ambulance Act And Regulations,
Saskatchewan Health Emergency Treatment Protocols, and Company policies and procedures.

Transport Patient(s) to the appropriate facility in accordance with established policies and procedures and, with a minimal delay.

Provide client-focused service and patient care.

Provide receiving medical authorities and WPD Ambulance with an accurately completed Saskatchewan Health, Patient Care Report Form (PCR)
outlining observations, treatments and any changes that occurred while on all calls for the service.

Provide verbal reports to other health care providers, as required, for any patient treated and /or transported.

Obtains and documents complete information for billing purposes on all PCRs

Completes appropriate statistical Documentation.

Conducts a vehicle inspection and check in accordance with established policy at the beginning of each shift and completes all required documentation for these checks.

Maintains technical skills consistent with The Ambulance Act And Regulations, Saskatchewan Health Emergency Treatment Protocols, and
organizational policies and procedures.

Completes all station and unit cleaning/checking daily as assigned.

Reports immediately to the Operations Manager or his/her designate any unsafe working condition- verbally and in writing.

Performs any other related duties as assigned by The Operations/Training Manager or his/her designate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of a Saskatchewan recognized Primary Care Paramedic Program with current registration within the Saskatchewan College Of Paramedics or the ability to become registered.

Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level C certification.

Valid Saskatchewan Class 4 drivers license or ability to obtain one.

Working knowledge of the application and operation of all emergency patient care equipment currently in use by WPD Ambulance.

Physically fit with the ability to lift loaded stretchers on a regular basis.

Ability to operate emergency vehicles in a safe and effective way with a minimum of delay during emergency situations.

International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), ITLS Instructor, CPR Instructor, and First Responder Instructor training are preferred.

The required forms for employment with WPD Ambulance:

  • Copy of Saskatchewan class four drives license
  • Criminal Record Check (current with in the last six months)
  • Copy of EMT/EMTA/EMTP Diploma from CMA accredited School (ie: SIAST)

  • Copy of current CPR/AED certificates

  • Copy of current NRP certificate
  • Copy of current ACLS certificate EMTPs please provide
